Centenary Gwen Opie Memorial Shield 2025

Ladies’ College triumphed over their traditional rivals, Girls’ High School, Kandy, by 32-26 in their centenary netball match, claiming victory in the Gwen Opie Memorial Challenge Shield at Ladies’ College grounds in Colombo yesterday.

The match marked 100 years since Ladies’ College and Girls’ High School were the first two schools to introduce school netball in Ceylon in 1924. Ladies’ College captain Adhithi Gunasekara won the toss and chose to play first. The home team took an early lead, finishing the first quarter 9-7 ahead.
