TENNIS 2022

Ladies' College Tennis team participated in the All Island Arjen Perera Memorial Trophy which took place from 24th September to 28th September at SLTA.

Our Under 14 A, Under 16 B and Under 18 teams emerged as Runners Up in Division 3. The Under 12 team emerged as Runners Up in Division 2 and our Under 16 A team emerged as Runners Up in Division 1. 

Also in individual matches, Nishka Vivekanandan of Grade 11 was the Runner Up in the Under 16 Category 1 and Dinara Welagedara of Grade 11 emerged Champion in Category 2.

Our Captain and Vice Captain faced Finals against each other in Under 18 Category 3 and our Captain Nishka Samarasinghe became Champion and Thimanya Ellepola emerged as the Runner Up.

Our under 20 team and under 17 team both participated in the National School Games – Tennis tournament, which was held from the 1st to 3rd of November at the SLTA. The under 20 team lost at the quarter finals and the under 17 team emerged 4th place in their respective age groups.

The Cool Tennis Inter School tournament took place from the 4th to the 7th of November at the SLTA as well. Our under-8 orange ball team comprising of grade 3 students were placed first overall and our under-10 green ball team was placed 3rd in the consolation round.

TABLE TENNIS

Ladies’ College Table Tennis in A, B and C divisions, participated in the Sri LAnka Interschool Table Tennis Tournament 2022, held at St.Thomas’ College, Mt.Laviniya, in the under 14,16 and 18 categories.

SCRABBLE

All Island Age Group Scrabble Championship 2022 conducted by the Scrabble league

The first round of the All-Island Age Group Scrabble Championship tournament was held on the 20th of August 2022. This tournament was held under two categories namely U13 and U18. The top 24 players of each category were selected to participate in the second round which was held on the 27th of August 2022. Six of our girls were lucky to have been chosen among approximately 250 students.

Nisyah Peiris and Ruth Dias were chosen from the u18 category and Arianna Sirisena, Salma Hamza, Sonalki Dharmawansa and Eleasha Dias were chosen from the u13 category to participate in the second round.

Much enthusiasm was shown especially among the newcomers this year and as a result, there were 18 players who participated in this tournament.

The final round of the All-Island Age group Scrabble Competition took place on the 27th of August. The top 24 players of each age group from the first round of the tournament were eligible to play in this round. 

Nisyah Peiris and Ruth Dias were able to rank 17th and 21st in the under 18 category.

Arianna Sirisena, Eleasha Dias, Sonalki Dharmawansa and Salma Hamza were placed 14th, 18th, 20th and 22nd in the under 13 category.

We would like to congratulate all the scrabble players who took part in both rounds of the tournament and we commend their efforts.

SWIMMING

Ladies’ college emerged overall champions at the Western Province Swimming Championship 2022, which was held at Rahula College Kotte where 25 schools participated.

The points of the winners were as follows.

Ladies College 95 Points
Visakha Vidyalaya 90 Points
Lyceum International School Wattala 68 Points

ATHLETICS

The annual interschool Zonal Athletics Meet took place from the 23rd to the 26th of August 2022 for the first time in 2 years following disruption due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Despite the numerous challenges associated with the pandemic as well as the prevailing economic and political climate of the country, our team emerged victorious at the Zonal Meet, scoring a total of 105 points and securing a stunning lead.

Gateway College emerged runners-up, scoring a total of 59 points whilst Bishops College followed close at third place scoring a total of 57 points. Conclusively, our athletics team won the relay cup and emerged Borella Circuit champions as well as the overall champions of the Zonal Meet.

HOCKEY

The all Island Hockey Tournament (Western Province) was held on the 9th and 10th of August 2022 at Astro Torf Colombo 07.

On the 9th of August, our team played the first-round match against Ratnavali Balika and obtained a magnificent victory with a score of 3 – 0. The second round match was played against Srimavo Vidyalaya Nawala and obtained a victory yet again with a score of 1 – 0. The semi-Finals match was played on the 10th of August against Janadipathi Vidyalaya where we lost with a score of 1 – 0. The 3rd place match was played against Musaeus College.

CHESS

Ladies’ College won third place in the girls category at the ’25th Battle of the Kings’ Chess tournament held on the 23rd & 24th of April 2022 at the Royal College premises.

BASKETBALL

Due to the global pandemic in 2020 and 2021, the two years were combined and an under 20 tournament took place in 2022.

The Ladies’ College basketball team started off the ‘B’ Division under 20 All Island Schools Basketball Tournament on the 28th of April where they played against Lyceum Nugegoda and won with a score of 49-42.

On the 8th of May, our team played the semi-finals against Visakha Vidyalaya where the scores were 48-27 in favour of LC. On the 19th of May amidst the prevailing situation in the country, they were able to play their final match at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium against our sister school Hillwood College Kandy where the scores were 47-30 and our team gained victory and emerged ‘B’ Division champions for the first time in the schools' history.

Kiandra Benjamin was awarded the most valuable player of the match while Sareesha Mapagunaratne was awarded the best offensive player.

The team comprised of Dewdhinie Daluwatte, Kiandra Benjamin, Sareesha Mapagunaratne, Alisha Devasagayam, Sabira Sinan, Tashya Weerackody, Amaya Devasagayam, Tamalee Ratnayake, Sentina Fonseka, Taliya De Fonseka, Abigail Gabriel, Tashya Fernando, Veruni Goonesinha.

TENNIS 2019

The All Island Public Schools Tennis Tournament 2018, held from the 01st to 04th July 2019, resulted in Ladies’ College emerging as champions in both under 17 and under 19 categories.

The under 17 team beat Visakha Vidyalaya, Museaus College and Gateway International to emerge victorious. The team comprised of Alana Seneviratne, Michaela Jayasuriya, Rivinka De Silva, Yehali Ranasinghe, Nelumi Cooray, Aindri Vairavanathan, Chavini Karunaratna, Ayenkah Peries, Manara Madanayake and Indeevari De Silva.

The under 19 team beat St. Bridget’s Convent in the semi-final and Bishops College in the final to clinch the championship. The team comprised of Sethara Ambawatte, Priyasha Unamboowe, Arani Cooray, Anika Seneviratne, Rheanna David, Aanya Perera, Rayaca Tayabally, Maneka Madanayake, Saheli Hapudeniya and Sathi Silva.

ROWING

The Ladies’ College Rowing crew emerged winners in the Junior category of the Sri Lanka National Intermediate and Junior Rowing Championships held at the Diyawanna Oya from 13 – to 15th February 2019.

Anithra Fernando won the School girl Sculler Award at the Senior Nationals held at Diyawanna Rowing Academy on 2nd March 2019.
